My Web stats are better than yours.

It was interesting to note this weekend that Team Hillary followed up on the launch of her presidential campaign by sending out a press release stressing the “huge online response” to the announcement. The release contained these statistics:

Overwhelming Response Within Hours of Going Live:

  • SIGN UPS = 100 per minute
  • MESSAGES OF SUPPORT = 10,000
  • VIDEO WEBCAST SIGN-UPS = 7,700
  • BLOG CONTEST SUBMISSIONS = 2,200

The message? You’ve got the hype, Obama, but we’ve got the support.

Even the pundits – in this case, uber-pundit Charlie Cooke — are applauding her campaign by complimenting her Web site:

“In addition to the video clip, the site includes a political analysis of recent polls suggesting she can win, as well as invitations to contribute and sponsor local events to support her. ‘This is an example of what’s to come,’ Cook said. ‘It has lots of bells and whistle. There’s nothing left to chance.'” [LA Times, 1/20/07]

Its clear that the Internet will play a central role in what is shaping up to be an incredibly long campaign. I’ll be following it closely over the next several months.
